Care & Cleaning

We trust you will have many years of satisfying use from your Hytec gelcoat or acrylic bathing product. The following care and maintenance tips are offered to assist you in keeping your bathtub or shower in “as new” condition.

Routine Cleaning

A quick sponge down with warm water and a non-abrasive cleanser will take care of most cleaning needs. In areas where the water is hard, more frequent cleaning will be necessary to avoid a build-up on the surface.

Eco-Cleaners

To remove mold, mildew and soap deposits: Make a paste of baking soda and cool water, and spread it over the entire surface of the unit. Allow the paste to sit for a few minutes, then rinse with clean, warm water. To remove deep, dark stains: Soak clean white cotton rags with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Apply the rags to the stain, and let sit overnight. Rinse thoroughly with cold water. To remove hard water scale deposits: Sponge with white vinegar until deposits disappear. Rinse with cold water.

Paint Splashes

A quick wipe with mineral spirits or polyclens and then a wash with water will remove paint. Do not use paint remover or stripper, as these contain solvents which could permanently damage the surface.

Things to Avoid

Do not sand or clean with any abrasive product.

Restoring Finish

To restore dull or scratched surfaces: Apply white automotive polishing compound with a clean rag. Rub scratches and dull areas vigorously. Wipe off residue. Follow with a coat of white automotive paste wax. Do not wax areas where you walk or stand.

Whirlpool Care

Flush your whirlpool system twice a month or more, depending upon usage. Follow these easy steps:

1. Close air volume controls by turning the jet clockwise.
2. Fill the bath with hot water to a level 2” above the highest jets.
3. Add 2 teaspoons of a low-foaming dishwasher detergent or 4 ounces of household bleach to the water.
4. Run the whirlpool for 5 to 10 minutes. Then shut off the whirlpool and drain the water.
5. Fill the bath with cold water to a level 2” above the highest jets, and run the whirlpool for another 5 to 10 minutes. Drain the bath and wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
